What Is Retaining Rings & What Are There Benefits

Retaining rings are primarily used on either the shafts or bores. The purpose of these rings is to maintain the position of the components of the assembly, they do this by getting positioned in the grove, which creates a form of a shoulder that holds other components. The retaining rings can be made from a number of different materials. The exact form of material used will depend on the type of environment the retaining rings are supposed to be used.

The retaining ring manufacturers in India produce the rings in two types, namely, internal rings and external rings. The internal rings are installed inside the cylinder and here they are kept inside a hole or a bore. The metric external retaining rings are installed outside the shaft. Self-locking retaining rings are another form of retaining rings. These rings can be applied to applications where there are no grooves.

An increasing number of industries are starting to use retaining rings. The retaining ring suppliers are seeing the demand for these rings to be at an all-time high; the reason for this rise is the various advantages that these retaining rings offer. Let’s take a look at some of the benefits offered by the retaining rings.

A huge range of applications
The retaining rings provided by the retaining ring manufacturers in India have a wide range of applications. Some of these applications include aircraft, valves, lawn mowers, pumps, gear retainers, brake cylinders, electric motors, torque converters, and much more.

A smaller finished design
The metric external retaining rings are designed in a way so as to provide a design that is relatively smaller in size. This relative smaller size also translates to lower weight as compared to the weight of the design generated by traditional fasteners. This smaller design generated by the metric external retaining rings helps in improving the efficiency of the entire assembly.

Ability to reduce the total number of components
The retaining ring manufacturers in India have designed their products in a way that allows it to replace a number of pieces of hardware in an assembly. Furthermore, with the retaining rings, the need for housing preparation like threading, tapping, and drilling is reduced. The advantage of this is reduced cost and time for assembly.

Provides an elegant solution for specific applications

For applications that require 360-degree contact, retaining rings offer the best solution. Installing retaining rings provide a seamless 360-degree contact with groove and shoulders of the assembling parts.

Circlips Group was established in 1967 and they are amongst the top manufacturers of various manufacturing products, such as circlips, snap rings, spring dowels, and much more.
